Pioneering Professional Boxing in Bangladesh: My Journey of Building a Legacy

By Md. Asaduzzaman

When I returned to Bangladesh on September 20, 2020, I carried a mission in my heart—to build a professional boxing platform that could elevate our athletes to the global stage. At that time, Bangladesh had no formal segment for professional boxing. I knew I had to start from the ground up, and I was ready.

I began by sitting down with the Bangladesh Amateur Boxing Federation, hoping to collaborate and lay the groundwork for developing a thriving professional boxing scene. I presented a comprehensive plan on how Bangladeshi boxers could rise and dominate the world boxing field with proper structure and international recognition. Sadly, their response was disappointing. They brought up numerous issues and consistently delayed progress. It became clear that I needed to take a different path.

Establishing the Bangladesh Professional Boxing Association

Refusing to give up, I took a bold step. In October 2020, I submitted a proposal to the Government of Bangladesh to register the Bangladesh Professional Boxing Association (BPBA) as a legal trade organization. Within a month, in November 2020, the government approved the proposal. This moment marked the official birth of professional boxing in Bangladesh.

I proudly serve as the President of the Bangladesh Professional Boxing Association, and from day one, I’ve taken the responsibility to lead, guide, and grow this historic movement.

With the registration in place, I launched operations and began organizing events under the BPBA banner. The National Sports Council also recognized our initiative and granted us affiliation. However, due to internal political agendas, some influential figures stalled the process and withheld key documentation. Even with these obstacles, I pressed forward.

Achievements: Over 70 Professional Boxing Events and Counting

Since our founding, we have successfully completed approximately 70 professional boxing events across the country. Each event represents the hard work, resilience, and passion of our athletes and organizers. These events not only elevated the sport but also placed Bangladesh on the global boxing map.

I am proud to say that through the Bangladesh Professional Boxing Association, I formally recognized and established professional boxing as a legitimate and growing industry in our country.

Creating a Sustainable Economic Model for Boxing in Bangladesh

From day one, I envisioned boxing as more than just a sport—I saw it as a pathway to financial empowerment for many. Through the BPBA, we have developed a sustainable income source for boxers, coaches, officials, promoters, and sponsors.

For the first time in Bangladesh, professional boxers are earning well, enabling them to lead stable and dignified lives through their passion. I firmly believe that boxing can become a significant contributor to our national economy.

Looking Ahead: Boxing University and Industry Expansion

As we look to the future, the Bangladesh Professional Boxing Association has bold plans. One of our most ambitious projects is to establish the first-ever Boxing University in Bangladesh—a place where aspiring boxers can receive formal education, training, and professional development.

This institution will serve as a hub for boxing education, fostering new generations of athletes, coaches, referees, and administrators. It will also create countless employment opportunities and further strengthen boxing’s role in the national economy.

My Dream: Making Boxing the Biggest Industry in Bangladesh

I dream of a future where boxing becomes one of the biggest industries in Bangladesh, creating jobs, changing lives, and elevating our country’s image worldwide. This dream is no longer a distant vision—it is becoming a reality, step by step.

I am grateful for the support I’ve received from those who believe in this mission. And I will continue to fight—not in the ring, but in the arena of leadership, development, and opportunity—for the future of professional boxing in Bangladesh.

“Alhamdulillah, I remain thankful for this journey, and I will keep pushing forward for the betterment of our youth, our athletes, and our nation.”
